Biosecurity 2025 is about reviewing and future-proofing New Zealand's biosecurity system. The aim is to ensure that our already strong biosecurity system continues to protect New Zealand against pests and diseases.

Keeping the biosecurity system resilient

The purpose of Biosecurity 2025 is to develop a direction statement that will make sure New Zealand's biosecurity system:

  • guides all participants
  • remains effective and resilient in the face of changing risks and pressures
  • can take advantage of new opportunities.

Protecting to Grow New Zealand Biosecurity Forum 2016

Minister Nathan Guy launched the Government's Biosecurity 2025 Direction Statement at the Protecting to Grow New Zealand Biosecurity Forum 2016. It establishes the mission for biosecurity and five strategic directions for focus including involving every New Zealander and business in managing Biosecurity risk and growing science, technology, information, leadership, workforce and infrastructure Biosecurity capability.

The Forum featured a range of domestic and international speakers and was followed by a day of workshops addressing the implementation of the 2025 strategy.

Protecting to Grow New Zealand: Biosecurity Forum 2016

MPI and the Government Industry Agreement for Biosecurity Readiness and Response (GIA) are hosting a Forum which will launch the Biosecurity 2025 Direction Statement about the future of biosecurity in New Zealand on 22/23 November in Auckland. The statement recognises that everyone in New Zealand has a part to play in our biosecurity system and everyone benefits from it. Registrations to attend are now open here.

Biosecurity 2025 Workshops

In the last month NZPPI attended two workshops discussing the Biosecurity 2025 Direction Statement and provided feedback on the strategy and in particular to advocate for improved access to imported plant germplasm, mechanisms to ensure plant producers can transport their product freely through the country and a better understanding of the location of nurseries and our stock movement.
